T3 Motion Electric Vehicles on Patrol

Date of Release: 2007/12/04

T3 Motion Electric Vehicles on Patrol
The GTAA and Peel Regional Police unveiled the new T3 Motion Electric Vehicles on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at Toronto Pearson.

These next-generation vehicles were specifically designed to enhance police and security monitoring wherever they are in use. Though they are in use by many police departments throughout the United States, Toronto Pearson is only the second airport in North America, next to Los Angeles International, and the only airport in Canada to use these three-wheeled stand-up vehicles.

These zero-gas, clean-energy vehicles conform to the clean air environment policy currently in place at Toronto Pearson, and remain simple and easy to drive. With speeds of up to 16 km/hr (10 mph), these vehicles allow officers to reach an emergency quickly and efficiently. Another great feature of the T3s is its nine-inch raised platform, which offers visibility above crowds.

In attendance at the event were Superintendent Ed Toye, Officer in Charge – Airport Division; Inspector Bob Strain, Airport Division; and Mr. Jim Bertram, GTAA Director of Public Safety. All spoke highly of the latest GTAA initiative to provide a higher level of security to airport passengers and employees alike.

“By purchasing the T3s, we anticipate to increase the mobility of the officers that patrol the airport and provide a quicker response time to any and all emergencies, as time spent getting from one side of the terminal to the other will be reduced significantly,” commented Mr. Bertram. “Operating these vehicles is very cost effective for us, and we are hoping to add more of the T3s next year.”
