Partners in Project Green: A Pearson Eco-Business Zone

At the GTAA, we have made sustainability one of the core themes of our Strategic Plan. And we know that environmental and economic benefits increase exponentially when we partner with other businesses and the community around us.

The Pearson Eco-Business Zone includes over 12,000 hectares of industrial and commercial land surrounding Toronto Pearson, including land from the municipalities of Mississauga, Toronto and Brampton. The 12,500 businesses in this area provide employment for approximately 355,000 people, making it both Canada's largest area for employment and a producer of 1.7 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions related to energy consumption.

As one of the founding members of Partners in Project Green, the GTAA collaborates with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, our neighbouring municipalities, and over 200 businesses in the region. Companies working together are able to do more to increase green business with less individual risk. We continue to develop programs to reduce green resource costs, uncover new opportunities and address everyday operational challenges. In addition, partners benefit from access to regular information sessions, business assessments, best practices and a green business directory. And stakeholders celebrate successes together.
